Presentation - An Introduction to DEI and Sourcing Disability Talent
This program is approved for continuing education credit hours through HRCI and SHRM!
Topic Description
Have you heard terms like DEI, disparities, privilege, bias, and microaggressions? Are you curious to know more and want to feel confident in being able to identify and discuss these issues? This session is a great opportunity to learn the basics, ask the uncomfortable questions you might have, and open the door to making your work more equitable for all.
We will define key terms, explore deeper topics within the domains of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and will provide practical strategies to start employing DEI concepts in your work. A tool called Slido is used to create a “safer” space to ask anonymous questions and explore the meaning and impact of DEI.
Additionally, we will hear more on Sourcing Disability Talent during our time together.
About the Speakers
Becky Gabany, CDE

Becky serves as a board member for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Illinois as well as a member of the United Way Health Vision Council. She is a trained Healing Ambassador and a Certified Diversity Professional. Becky is a life-long resident of the Springfield area, receiving her Master’s degree in Human Services at the University of Illinois at Springfield. Becky lives in Glenarm with her husband, Adam, and their two sons, Julian and Arlo (aged 6 and 4). Becky is an avid reader, thrift shopper, and traveler – reading around 30 books each year, posting her thrift finds on Instagram @GoodwillGabany and having visited 19 countries so far. Becky has a passion for inclusion and a desire to learn, grow, and act as an ally for those who are marginalized. She hopes to effect change in our community, build long-lasting partnerships with those already doing the work, and, ultimately, inspire and empower people to reach their full potential.
